My name is Chris Casswell, I’m a professional archaeologist (MCIfA) and Head of Fieldwork at DigVentures. I lead teams of professionals, students and amateurs alike to deliver first class results from the project planning to publication. Specializing in field excavation has allowed me to travel far and wide, mostly in the UK but also abroad in the USA and Spain. I’ve worked on numerous sites and scheduled monuments and even a few World Heritage Sites, including Stonehenge and the Alhambra. This is what I love; the variety and the challenge. There are no two sites the same and you never stop learning. Every day is an adventure.
It would be fair to say I’m a bit of geek when it comes to using technology in archaeology. My real passion lies in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It’s such a powerful tool for bringing data together visually so that everyone can understand. I think it’s an underused by most archaeologists, and my mission to is to show them and everyone else why they should embrace it.
